Over the February break we went to Israel as a family for the first time. Rob and I were both there over 30 years ago. Charlie went on the Teen Exchange last year with Shaaray Tefila. His experience on the teen exchange was extremely meaningful and has left a lasting impression. So, in planning our trip, Charlie definitely wanted to visit his host family. We were equally eager to see Gilad – his Israeli teen counterpart – and meet the family who so warmly welcomed Charlie into their home. So built into our jam packed week of sightseeing we planned an afternoon in Haifa with the Ben Josef family.
After our families shared a delicious lunch at a fabulous restaurant in downtown Haifa, we went back to their home for a visit and dessert. Getting our two families together – in addition to the teens reuniting, was quite special. In spite of distance and different cultures, we had so much in common and so many shared values. It was a wonderful way to end our time in Israel and are already looking forward to our next Israel adventure.
