This Shabbat begins the book of Sh’mot, the book we call Exodus. It is the seminal story of the Jewish people, of our freedom and redemption, the leaving of Egypt for the Promised Land of Israel. Two weeks ago yesterday, ten of our teenage chalutzim, or pioneers, along with Hope Chernak, Linda Minton, and myself, embarked on an Exodus of our own, the first ever Teen Exchange program between Shaaray Tefila and our partner congregation in Haifa, Ohel Avraham and the Leo Baeck Education Center…

Our First Shabbat: Teen Exchange 2012-2013

First Shabbat

Having arrived and gone straight to Kabbalat Shabbat at Ohel Avraham, our kids met their families and went home to get over their jet lag. Throughout the Kabbalat Shabbat service we noticed our tired teens smiling and happy to finally be in Israel and to be home at Ohel Avraham. Dinners were had in each students home as we got to know our host families and their friends and extended family.
